John Paul Davis is a poet, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter. and producer. He has been a bike messenger, delivery driver, line cook, dishwasher, busboy, waiter, baristo, event manager, warehouse manager, roller-rink deejay, substitute teacher, college professor, grocery bagger, stablehand, paperboy, soundman, bookseller, and is now a web developer. His poems have appeared in numerous journals, including RATTLE, Bennington Review, Maine Review, MUZZLE, The Journal, and many others. His first book, Crown Prince Of Rabbits, was published by Great Weather For Media in 2017 and his second, Climbing A Burning Rope will be published by University of Pittsburgh Press in 2024. He lives in New York City with his wife, actress Mahira Kakkar.

Performance History

John Paul Davis represented Chicago at the 2000 and 2010 National Poetry Slams. He has been the featured poet at many venues, including: The Nuyorican Slam (NYC), louderARTS (NYC), Page Meets Stage (NYC), Mental Graffiti (Chicago), The Uptown Poetry Slam (Chicago), The Boston Poetry Slam, and several others. He appeared in multiple episodes of The Encyclopedia Show both in Chicago and NYC. He was a curator and Slammaster of the louderARTS Project, and a curator of Page Meets Stage. He has performed to a sold-out crowd at the 1000+ person Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, and opened the 2023 Nowhere Else music festival with a poem. He has been performing his poetry on stages large and small for 30 years.
